Jersey (Port of Jersey)

The Jersey ship register lets you enter your vessel in the register of British ships kept on the island, one of the British Crown Dependencies in the English Channel. We handle the registration and guide you through every step.

Who runs the register

Registrations are handled by the Registrar of British Ships at Ports of Jersey, in St Helier. Full registration brings membership of the Red Ensign Group: Jersey is a Category 2 register and is overseen by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Who can register a vessel

According to Ports of Jersey, the register is open to owners and companies from the Commonwealth, the European Economic Area, the British Islands, the Crown Dependencies and the Overseas Territories. You do not need to live in Jersey, but anyone without an address on the island must appoint a local representative before registration is completed, or the vessel may be removed from the register.

Which vessels

The register accepts vessels under 400 gross tonnage. Registration for commercial use requires a commercial coding certificate issued by an authorised surveyor. There is also a Small Ships Register, reserved for vessels owned by individuals, on which mortgages cannot be registered.

Advantages

  • Certificate of registry valid for ten years, with no annual fees (the other Red Ensign Group registers issue five-year certificates).
  • Proof of title and nationality recognised worldwide.
  • Mortgages can be registered to protect the lender.

How we help

  • Checking the requirements for the owner or the company.
  • Preparing the declaration of eligibility, the bill of sale and the other forms required.
  • Coordination with the register, the Jersey representative and the surveyors for measurement and coding.

Contact us using the form at the bottom of the page with the vessel's details: we will tell you which documents are needed and the steps to follow.
