The Maltese flag is one of the most popular choices for commercial yachts in the Mediterranean, but it comes with strict crew requirements. Agenzia Magnum helps you with the administrative and regulatory side of crew management on the Maltese register, working with the Merchant Shipping Directorate of Transport Malta and with qualified professionals in Malta.
Malta implements MLC 2006 through the Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) Rules. According to Transport Malta guidance (MS Notice 105), the convention applies to Maltese ships engaged in commercial activities, while yachts of any size in non-commercial use are excluded. For commercial yachts we handle:
Officers holding a non-Maltese STCW certificate of competency must obtain an endorsement from the Maltese administration, while some non-STCW qualifications (such as Master of Yachts) require written acceptance. All crew must hold at least STCW Basic Training and, on yachts of 500 GT and over, Security Awareness training. We help you check your crew's qualifications against the Minimum Safe Manning Certificate and prepare endorsement applications.
Since 1 July 2025 the Commercial Yacht Code 2025 has been in force, replacing the 2020 edition for commercial yachts of 24 metres and over carrying no more than 12 passengers. Yachts already certified must comply by their first renewal after 31 December 2025: we help you work out what changes for your crew.
Contact us using the form at the bottom of the page for an initial review of your yacht's and crew's position.
