When buying a used boat over 10 m that is unregistered (or registered in a non-EU register), one of the first things to do is check that it has been type-approved ("omologata") under EU rules.
How can you tell whether a boat has been type-approved?
The first thing to look for is the CIN (Codice Identificativo Nazionale), the hull identification number. It is assigned when the boat is type-approved and issued by the builder. It is shown on a metal plate on the transom and in the cockpit. If the plate is there, the boat has type approval.
If it is missing, the boat is almost certainly (90%) not type-approved.
This new European directive governs the design, construction and free movement of boats produced in the European Union up to 24 m in length overall.
As a result, all certificates of conformity issued under Directive 94/25/EC are no longer valid and must be updated.
Our technical body can carry out this update at the most competitive prices on the market.
