April 2010 marked the start of a new era for Italian public administration.

A business normally has to be registered with 4 main state offices:

• Chamber of Commerce
• Italian Revenue Agency (VAT)
• INPS (national social security institute)
• INAIL (national workplace accident insurance institute)

Each office was independent and self-contained, so it happened, unfortunately very often, that personal records, addresses and information were completely out of step and in some cases even contradictory.

The single business filing (Comunicazione Unica) therefore opens a new chapter for Italian administration: a business registration (for example, setting up a sole proprietorship) now goes to all 4 bodies at once, with dates and information consistent across them.
